The Cardiologist is a Licensed/Board Certified professional who plays a key role as part of the clinical operations team, providing direct patient care and assessments, primarily in the ambulatory health care center setting. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating cardiovascular ailments such as heart attacks and coronary heart disease, taking medical history, conducting physical exams, developing care plans, providing health education, specialty and case management referrals, follow-up care, and documentation according to ChenMed standards. The Cardiologist participates in clinical rounds and conferences. Key duties include providing inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular care, care coordination, echocardiogram reading, population management, and oversight of PCP's cardiovascular skills. The role involves leading a cardiovascular care team, assisting the Medical Director in clinical and business operations, managing chronic cardiovascular diseases for a panel of at least 5,000 patients, assessing patients for surgeries, running and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medication, reviewing referrals, and participating in quality and performance initiatives. The Cardiologist also educates patients, trains and mentors staff, and participates in team meetings. Required knowledge includes pharmacological agents, cardiology practices, clinical skills for seniors, communication, conflict management, and proficiency with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office. Education and experience requirements include MD or DO in relevant specialties, board certification in Cardiology, active medical license, DEA and DPS certificates, minimum 2 years experience, and BLS certification within 90 days of employment.
