Job Description

Position: Tax Manager

Position Overview / Purpose

The Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring quality tax services, accounting and consulting work for the firm’s clients, in compliance with tax regulations and GAAP. Further, they are responsible for building positive client relationships and providing exceptional client service. The Tax Manager plans, budgets, and organizes engagements. The Tax Manager supervises, trains, and develops the firm’s professional staff.

Reporting Relationship

The Tax Manager reports to the partner group.

Responsibilities

The Tax Manager is responsible for all aspects of the tax compliance and consulting processes. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  1. Technical Expertise
  2. The Tax Manager is responsible for ensuring quality tax and accounting services to clients in compliance with tax regulations and GAAP. They must stay current on regulatory and industry changes affecting clients. The Tax Manager conducts research on complex technical issues and presents results or alternatives to engagement partners or clients as appropriate.
  3. Practice Development
  4. The Tax Manager contributes to practice development by building positive client relationships and providing exceptional client service. They take responsibility for exceeding client expectations, take a leadership role in professional and community organizations, and identify and sell client service opportunities.
  5. Engagement Administration
  6. The Tax Manager plans, budgets, and organizes client engagements. They assume overall project management responsibility including staffing, billing, and client satisfaction. The Tax Manager sets priorities and manages the workloads of staff through effective delegation and supervision.
  7. Staff Development
  8. The Tax Manager supervises, trains, and develops the firm’s professional staff. They recognize talents and weaknesses of staff and intervene with constructive feedback and action plans as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements

Successful candidates for this position require at least four years of significant tax and accounting experience . Specific knowledge skills and abilities required include the following:

  1. Communication – Excellent verbal and written communication skills with staff and clients.
  2. Tax / Accounting – Expert knowledge of tax regulations and GAAP.
  3. Technical – Expert command of tax and accounting software including ProSystem fx Tax and Engagement , computer spreadsheet applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word .
  4. Education – Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance and active CPA license.
  5. Management Skills – Excellent management skills in developing high performing teams and maintaining positive client relations.
