Job Description

A contract opportunity is available for a Sign Language Interpreter to support an elementary school setting in Othello, WA. This role offers the chance to provide essential communication assistance and foster an inclusive learning environment for students with hearing impairments during the school year.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate clear and effective communication between students, teachers, and staff by interpreting spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa.
• Support students in understanding classroom instructions, discussions, and activities through accurate sign language interpretation.
• Collaborate with educators and support personnel to ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all educational settings.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working with students and staff.
• Adapt interpreting techniques to meet individual student needs and educational objectives.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Proven experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, ideally in an educational environment.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret complex academic content.
• Strong understanding of deaf culture and effective communication practices within school settings.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents.
