One (1) part-time vacancy at our Milwaukee Campus, up to 19 hours per week, hours vary based on departmental needs. This is an academic year position which typically runs from mid- August through mid-May.
Under the supervision of the Dean or designee, to teach assigned classes to students enrolled in the Dental Assisting Program. Related duties include development and evaluation of all courses in the Dental Assisting curriculum, advising/mentoring students, maintaining laboratory facilities, ordering equipment and supplies, planning and supervising clinical learning experiences, serving as a liaison with the dental community, evaluating student achievement and program effectiveness, participation at advisory committee meetings, participation in divisional and departmental activities, and other duties as assigned.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates, implements and monitors instructional activities of students during didactic and laboratory sessions in the classroom and dental clinical areas.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safe operation of all clinic equipment; establishes and maintains inventory and preventive maintenance for equipment, and reinforces regulations related to infection prevention and safe use of all equipment.
  • Complies with yearly update training for faculty, staff and students in Hazard Communications and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Works with the associate dean to monitor program budget.
  • Participates in in-service training, workshops and other educational activities as required or assigned.
  • Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
  • Manager the classroom/laboratory.
  • Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
  • Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
  • Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
  • Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
  • Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
  • Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in efforts to market MATC.
  • Support student organizations and activities.
  • Develop relationships with business and industry.
  • Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
  • Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:
Must have the one (1) of the following:
  1. Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) or higher in Dental Hygiene, Education or related fields, OR
  2. Associate's degree (AAS/AA) in Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting or comparable educational credits or at least two (2) years (4,000 hours) related experience OR
  3. Technical diploma in medical/dental program with two (2) years (4,000 hours)
{Per Higher Learning Commission Determining Qualified Faculty Assumed Practice B.2.

Required Occupational Experience:
Must have a minimum of two (2) years full-time or equivalent (4,000 hours) experience as a Dental Assistant. In addition, one of the following must be met:
  1. At least one year of work must have occurred within the last five years; OR
  2. Two years of teaching Dental Assisting /Dental Hygiene course work at the post-secondary level within the last five years.

{One (1) year of teaching experience equivalent two (2) semesters full-time or four (4) semesters part-time per State of Wisconsin Legislature Administrative Code TCS 33.04}
Industry or vendor certification:
Certified Dental Assistant (recognized by the Dental Assistant National Board) or the ability to obtain certification with in one (1) year of hire if instructor is not licensed.
Licensure :
Licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist and/or licensed DDS in the State of Wisconsin or ability to obtain licensure within 60 days of employment.

Supplemental Information
Start Date: This position supports the Healthcare Pathway and is available to start in the fall semester or August 2025.
Hours: Working up to 19 hours weekly, in-person, primarily based out of the Downtown Campus. Work is conducted during scheduled course hours, Monday - Friday. Hours vary based on departmental needs. Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.
Salary: Beginning in the fall of 2024 the starting hourly wage for all part-time faculty is $40 per course hour of teaching. Part-time faculty are also compensated for an additional 45 minutes of time for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and prep time which is equivalent to $70 per hour. This starting hourly wage of $40 an hour is non-negotiable unless market conditions dictate otherwise.

Employee Benefits at a Glance - PART-TIME FACULTY/EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT- Part-time employees pay a higher percentage of the premium than full-time employees.
HEALTH INSURANCE: MATC offers a choice between two medical insurance plans. See below for plan types:
1- UMR High Level PPO
2- UMR Low Level PPO

Note : All medical plans include Prescription Drug benefits at no additional costs to employees.

DENTAL INSURANCE: MATC offers a traditional group dental plan through Delta Dental.

Annual maximum per covered person is $2,500; plan covers preventive, routine, restoration, and orthodontics for dependents up to age 19.

GROUP TERM LIFE INSURANCE: MATC offers group life insurance benefits through Symetra Provident Insurance with active assignment and is fully paid for by the College. The amount of insurance is $15,000. The benefit is doubled in the event of accidental death.


RETIREMENT BENEFITS: If you are employed for greater than 12 months and meet the minimum hours requirement for participation in the WRS pension system, you will be notified of your eligibility. The College currently pays the full cost of the employer contribution (6.9%), and the employee pays the full part of the employee contribution of 6.9% of salary. There is a five year vesting period requirement in order to qualify for any employer contributions made on the employee's behalf.

FLEXIBLE SPENDING PLANS: MATC offers eligible employees the opportunity to participate in both Health Care and Dependent Care flexible spending accounts administered through UMR.

SICK LEAVE BENEFITS: Sick leave is earned based on one times the weekly workload per semester. The maximum hours accumulation is 640 hours.


VACATION BENEFITS: Vacation is earned based on the length of service and hours worked each pay period. (Not available for Instructors)

PAID HOLIDAYS: MATC offers paid/flex holidays based on position.
