Position Summary:

The Department of Theatre & Dance at Western Oregon University seeks a passionate and experienced Instructional Faculty in Technical Theatre and Technical Direction to join our faculty in Creative Arts. The successful candidate will foster a student-centered environment where future theatre professionals and educators can develop their artistic talents and pedagogical skills in our B.A. in Theatre, B.F.A. in Theatre Teacher Education, and Minor in Theatre.

 

This is an Instructional Faculty position with a potential for renewal based on performance and departmental needs. The position is expected to total 1.0 FTE for the regular academic year (Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters). Summer opportunities are possible separately. The position title is Instructor. 

 

The position includes the following responsibilities:


  • Serve as Technical Director for all departmental productions, including building sets, overseeing other production design areas, managing shop budget, ensuring safety in the use of all equipment, supervising and training student workers, and supporting non-departmental events as appropriate.

  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in technical theatre, including Stage Management, Scenecraft, Lighting & Sound, Stage Properties, Scenic Design, Lighting Design, and other topics as needed.

  • Mentor and guide students by supervising student production assignments (such as Stage Managers, Props Masters, Assistant Designers, etc.) and provide individual support to students as they refine their technical skills.

  • Recruit students by promoting the Theatre program at Thespian conferences and other events for prospective students. Cultivate partnerships with local schools and teachers.

  • Proficiency in using digital design software (e.g., Vectorworks, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Cloud applications)

  • Portfolio of production experience
