Job Description

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is conducting a national search for Chair of the Department of Breast Imaging. This leader will be responsible for establishing the vision for, guiding faculty development, and overseeing all departmental operations and functions. The successful candidate will be an accomplished physician and proven leader with demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) applications in breast imaging. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with AI-enabled mammography systems and a strong track record of implementing technological innovations that enhance diagnostic accuracy, workflow efficiency, and patient outcomes.

The Department of Breast Imaging is part of the Division of Diagnostic Imaging, and the Chair reports to the Division Head. The Chair will lead a nationally recognized department and contribute meaningfully to MD Anderson's mission to eliminate of cancer through outstanding patient care, transformative research, and exceptional education.

The key focus for the next Chair will be the integration of cutting-edge AI technologies in breast imaging, including AI-assisted mammography interpretation, computer-aided detection systems, and emerging AI applications in multimodal breast imaging. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in evaluating, implementing, and optimizing AI tools for clinical practice while maintaining the highest standards of diagnostic excellence. A record of leadership in AI-related research, publications in AI mammography, or experience in clinical trials involving AI breast imaging is highly desirable.

The Department of Breast Imaging, an American College of Radiology Center of Excellence, provides comprehensive diagnostic imaging services to screen, diagnose, stage and monitor patients with breast conditions. The department employs a multimodal imaging approach, including mammography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasonography, and other advanced techniques. Faculty are deeply engaged in interdisciplinary clinical care, innovative research, and educational programs.

The Chair is responsible for all aspects of the department, including, but not limited to, direct patient care; basic, translational, and clinical research (with particular emphasis on AI and machine learning in breast imaging); faculty recruitment, development, and evaluation; educational program integration; finance and budgeting; and strategic planning aligned with institutional priorities and technological advancements.

The Chair will foster a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and well-being while supporting career development and mentorship opportunities for faculty and trainees. Additionally, the Chair will represent the department, division, and institution at local, regional, national, and international matters.

Qualifications

· M.D. or equivalent degree

· Board certification by the American College of Radiology

· Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Texas

· A minimum of 10 years of post-graduate clinical experience

· Demonstrated expertise in AI applications in breast imaging, including hands-on experience with AI-assisted mammography interpretation and implementation of technological advancements that improve diagnostic accuracy and workflow

· Proven record of clinical excellence and high-quality patient care

· Significant administrative and leadership experience at the departmental, or institutional, or organizational level

· Strong track record of independent and productive clinical or translational research, including success in securing grant or protocol funding

· Ongoing commitment to education or training, with a consistent record of mentoring trainees, faculty, or staff

· Progressive leadership experience in an academic setting; experience in an oncologic or cancer-focused environment is preferred

  • Ability to thrive in a matrixed, inter- disciplinary organization characterized by complex internal and external collaborations
